Food, glorious food.

At the moment I am in a total food crave. Why? Well, it is very possible I would sit on my bed browsing mouth watering Indian recipes either way, but I am currently on a diet. It’s a little to now carb and no sugar diet and it fluctuates between making me feel amazing and close to insanity.

I love food. When five years ago I could barely fit anything in my stomach, a year spent in the USA revolutionized my eating habits. If I have one thing to thank the states for – it’s an appetite. Dishes aren’t only big enough to live on for a week, they are also absolutely delicious. Food, glorious food, your mouth and stomach will be chanting three times a day everyday in their best Oliver! manner. However, that’s only the beginning. The USA awakens your appetite out of a deep slumber and Asia, in my case specifically China and Cambodia, will take it on a never ending party spree. Taste buds going crazy and gums drunk on explosive flavors – that’s Asia.

Well, I don’t live in either of those places but still they are partly responsible for why I need to be on a diet in the first place. With culinary experiences like those my appetite would go on rampages and when you don’t have dim sum and fajitas to keep you satisfied – chocolate will do. Yes, I know, my friends told me to stay away from him, but I was blinded by my love. No matter what it did to me and my body, I still craved it either way. Oh wait, this post wasn’t meant to be about chocolate indulgences (although there is always room for those). It is meant to be about a diet, I think, and Indian cuisine…

Dieting is not as horrible as it sounds, or sounded to me at least, but it does deprive you of some of your fridge’s favorites. Bread in all forms and flavors, starchy vegetables, sweets, fruit, fat, not to mention all side dishes like rice, noodles, potatoes… So naturally I just want to eat everything, all the time. Although I am fully aware of my kitchen habits (starting a huge culinary project and being too exhausted to eat it afterward), I really long for standing in the kitchen all day and cooking all varieties of Indian dishes, so I can devour them one after the other (Thank you, Buzzfeed). Summer is coming up and all I am thinking is “I should invite my friends for dinner.”, “We could have an Indian cookout.” and “Five chutneys surely isn’t too much.”

Oh body, oh soul, I know. I feel you. You are satiated but yes, I want to eat more comfort food, too. Just wait for Colombia – we will have an excuse to try every last dish in that country and return looking like we never dieted in the first place. What do you say? Maybe soon we can actually motivate ourselves to work out for real and then, then we can start eating normal again. Even with a little bit of chocolate on the side.

Update: I actually wrote this post a while ago, and somehow never uploaded it because I wasn’t perfectly happy with it. Now I am not on a diet anymore but work out, like I had hoped I would. This means – I can eat whatever I want! Which is amazing and which means I am cooking Indian food all the time now. Going back to everything I saved during the diet. If this sounds silly to you, it doesn’t matter. I feel good in my body and enjoy working out, and I have become more conscious of what I eat now. Plus, I appreciate everything I eat just that much more. Guten Appetit!
